Competition launched to create 'inspirational' Bolton housing

A new competition has been launched to find a designer to breathe new life into large parts of Bolton's social housing provision.

The brief is to find a designer that will overhaul the streetscapes of many of the estates in the town.

It will include working with Bolton at Home, the arms-length organisation set up by Bolton council to manage the area's social housing.

The competion brief calls for the successful designer to work closely with local communities to create 'inspirational neighbourhoods for the next generation'.

The entries will also be called upon to demonstrate an 'imaginative approach', so the limited £500,000 budget can be implemented to maximum effect.

From the initial expressions of interest, up to six teams will be invited to proceed to the interview phase of the competition. Each of the shortlisted practices will receive an honorarium of £1,000 to develop some preliminary ideas.
