Competition for Preston office block announced

The RIBA Competitions Office has taken the unusual step of announcing a contest for the design of an office building.

The office is inviting entries for a £6 million, four-storey office block scheme close to the city centre of Preston, Lancashire.

A spokesperson for the office said that the private client had 'high aspirations for an exceptional building that will have a strong visual presence in a prominent location at the entrance to a major business park'.

They added that the £6 million budget was 'considerably higher than the normal figure for a typical commercial building in the Preston area'.

The competition brief for the 3,700m2 building will be available from the beginning of June and anyone wishing to enter the competition can download a preliminary briefing paper from
