Clissold scheduled to reopen at start of 2006

The London Borough of Hackney has committed itself to reopening Hodder Associates' extremely controversial Clissold Leisure Centre by February next year.

The council is determined that the work planned for the building must be completed by the beginning of 2006.

It has also announced that it will be holding a series of public consultation sessions prior to work on site restarting,

A spokeswoman said attendees will be invited to 'share their experiences' of using the centre and 'suggest improvements for the future'.

Hackney's mayor, Jules Pipe, said it was important that the centre was as good as possible, following the many problems.

'When Clissold Leisure Centre reopens, we want it to be fit for purpose and reflect the needs of local people,' he said. 'It is important that people give us their views so we can achieve that.'
