Clare Devine has been appointed director of architecture and the built environment at the Design Council
Devine is chair for Women in Architecture and vice chair of Architects for Change at the RIBA. She was previously a board director at Shepheard Epstein Hunter, set up the London office of Cambridgeshire-based Ruddle Wilkinson and served as head of education and public sector at Capita Symonds.
Her appointment follows a long period of voluntary redundancies at the Design Council due to funding cuts, which saw staff reduced to just 11 earlier this year (see AJ 28.03.13)
Devine said she was ‘pleased and excited’ to be joining the Design Council.
She said: ‘I’m looking forward to working with people across the Design Council team to promote design as a powerful vehicle in the improvement of places and lives.’
John Mathers, chief executive of the Design Council said: ‘This is a really exciting time for the Design Council as we continue to develop a sustainable architecture and built environment portfolio. We champion great design, and Clare will be an extremely valuable asset in our mission to improve lives and make things better.’
Paul Finch, deputy chair of the Design Council, said: ‘We are looking forward to this next stage in the life of Cabe at the Design Council, and the full integration of architecture and the built environment in the broader world of design.’
He added: ‘This is a time of opportunities which we plan to pursue with a refreshed and energised team.’
