Chetwood reveals new project for Lichfield

Chetwood Associates has won a competition to design a £80 million mixed-use development in Lichfield city centre.

The London-based practice beat 20 other entries with its proposal for a 33,000m retail, leisure and commercial scheme in the heart of the Staffordshire city.

The winning design also includes plans to transform existing residential properties and to improve the cultural and social amenity within the area.

Chetwood director Simon Baker said: 'The Birmingham Road site offers the opportunity for considerable development within the medieval cathedral city and its development should respect this context and be seen as a well-considered addition to the city that resolves the relationship with its historic heart.'

Exact details of the final scheme still depend on land acquisition and consultation with the local community.
