Cash prize on offer at RA summer show

Bovis Lend Lease, in partnership with the AJ, will once again award £10,000 for the best submission to the Architecture Room at the 2009 Royal Academy of Arts (RA) Summer Exhibition

The theme of this year’s award is ‘Making Space’ and a £10,000 Grand Award is up for grabs, along with £5,000 for the best submission by a first-time exhibitor - an award which has previously been won by architecture students.

This year’s exhibition co-ordinators are Will Alsop, Ann Christopher and Eileen Cooper. The Selection and Hanging Committee includes Michael Hopkins and Eric Parry.

The Summer Exhibition will run from 8 June-16 August 2009 and the RA will publish winning and commended entries in the summer.

Last year, the Grand Award went to Flores Prats Architects for Mills Museum in Palma de Mallorca (pictured), and the best work by a first-time exhibitor was Hélène Binet’s photos of Le Corbusier’s Eglise Saint-Pierre de Firminy-Vert.

Entrants can submit two works, with an entrance fee of £25 per work. Entry forms can be downloaded at www.royalacademy.org.uk/summer-exhibition and must be returned to the RA by 17 March. Entrants for the Architecture Room will submit their work to the RA on 29 April.

For more information, telephone 020 7300 5929/5969 or email summerexhibition@royalacademy.org.uk.
