Call goes out for Barking Riverside designers

The search is on for two design teams to lead the regeneration of one of the UK's biggest brownfield sites - Barking Riverside in east London.

Launched by regeneration agency Barking Riverside, a joint venture by English Partnerships and developer Bellway, the body is looking for expressions of interest to plan the first two phases of the site.

The two design teams will work to the existing Barking Riverside masterplan and design guidelines to help deliver a sustainable community, providing family homes and related facilities.

Expressions of interest should be made by 26 April. A shortlist will be unveiled in early May with the final selection made by the end of the month.

Barking Riverside director Duncan Innes said: 'We want to ensure that high-quality design is integral to every element of Barking Riverside and that it is used effectively to address the key challenge of creating a truly sustainable 21st-century community.'
