Cadogan contest: Shortlisted designs for £2m King’s Road café revealed
The AJ can exclusively reveal the concept schemes by the six shortlisted practices in the competition to design a £2 million café on the King’s Road in London
The proposals have been drawn up by Architecture 00:/, Carmody Groarke, NEX, Duggan Morris Architects, TaylorSnell - a new outfit set up by Michael Hopkins + Partners alumni Bill Taylor and Robin Snell, and Pernilla Ohrstedt.

Duggan Morris Architects: ‘Featuring a singularity of colour-tinted terrazzo for walls, roof, floor and ceilings, internal spaces and perimeter landscape will overlap.’
Organised by Malcolm Reading Consultants for Cadogan Estates, the two-stage competition to design a replacement for the Gelateria Valerie in Duke of York Square received nearly 150 expressions of interests.
The scheme will sit next to the main thoroughfare to the Saatchi Gallery and within the larger Duke of York development, masterplanned and designed by Paul Davis + Partners.

NEX: ‘Finished in bespoke herringbone tile, the wall will trace an arc to coil around itself and envelop a space, progressing to the outside in layers.’
The designs will be on display at the Saatchi Gallery on the 26, 27 and 29 November.

Love the NEX design! Will be a great hang-out place. Can't wait to visit and take my afternoon coffee there.

Wish I could vote for NEX more than once. What a great design! Positively must have my tea there. The spiraling walls will make this a must-see and must-experience establishment.

What a creative and superb additional facility this would be to this lovely plaza, and what a great place to relax in and have some coffee.
