Brum viewing platform to break Midlands height record

SMC Hickton Madeley has won the race to design a vast new viewing platform for Birmingham.

The 175m tower will be the tallest building in the Midlands when complete, and is to be built in the heart of the Eastside regeneration area of the city.

The Pinnacle Project will include 'six unique themed rides', a lift giving views of the city, and a 140-cover restaurant and bar. A six-storey building at the base provides over 25,000m 2of accommodation and ancillary services.

Hickton Madeley design director Tim Marc Warner said he was delighted to have won the commission.

'We are extremely excited about this project for many reasons, not least that it will represent the highest building in the Midlands and potentially the highest restaurant in Europe, giving huge scope and presence to the rejuvenation programme and public connections for Eastside and plans for the new public park.'

It is hoped to be on site by the summer of next year.
