Blears gives thumbs-up to Hamiltons scheme

Hazel Blears has given the go ahead to Hamiltons’ controversial mixed-use scheme in Stanmore, north London, following a four-year battle with the London Borough of Harrow (LBH).

The brownfield scheme – for developer Berkeley Urban Renaissance, on which Turley Associates was planning and urban design consultant – had stalled in planning after resistance from the council.

However, an appeal was lodged for non-determination over LBH’s failure to make a decision; a move that led the inspector to call-in the secretary of state to determine the future of the 6ha scheme.
