Big names make shortlists for 2014 BCIA Awards

Foster, Zaha, Rogers and Hopkins have all made it onto the shortlists in this year’s BCIA Awards

The shortlists have been announced in this year’s British Construction Industry Awards.

Mecanoo’s much-lauded Library of Birmingham, Zaha Hadid’s London Aquatics Centre, Foster + Partner’s SSE Hydro, and Brent Civic Centre by Hopkins are all in the running for the Major Building Project of theYear.

Meanwhile Duggan Morris has two projects shortlisted in the Building Project of the Year with a value up to £10million category, alongside schemes by Cullinan Studio, BDP, Pick Everard, Llewellyn Davies and AJ100 high-flyers AHMM.

The awards are an established and coveted industry accolade recognising overall excellence in the delivery of building and civil engineering infrastructure projects.

Once again the programme will include the coveted Prime Minister’s Award for Better Public Buildings, which was won last year by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios’ Manchester Metropolitan University Business School and Student Hub. This year the practice has another building in Manchester shortlisted in the £10million - £50million Building Project of the Year category.

The rigorous judging process includes a visit, as always, to every shortlisted entrant in the building and civil engineering project categories by members of the expert jury which again includes the AJ’s acting editor Rory Olcayto.

The winners will be announced at a dinner on 8 October.
