Bennetts to overhaul The Old Vic

Bennetts Associates has submitted a planning application for the overhaul and extension of the world-renowned Old Vic theatre near Waterloo, London

Practice director Simon Erridge promised that the revamp would ‘subtly retain and restore the much loved character’ of the grade II*-listed building and added that an ‘…interior reconfiguration and extension would unlock valuable space.’

As well as the upgrade of the existing theatre the scheme includes a studio and workshop for The Old Vic’s community and emerging talent programme – Old Vic New Voices – in a new building adjacent to the theatre.

Also included in the plans, which have been lodged with Lambeth Council, are a new all-day café, a terrace space, upgraded bars and improved access for wheelchair users.
