BDP to produce new vision for Gatwick Diamond

BDP has been called in by Crawley Borough Council to produce a 'vision and action plan' for Manor Royal Estate - a run down commercial zone to the south of Gatwick Airport.

The firm's Urbanism Group will work in conjunction with economic adviser Regeneris Consulting to produce the masterplan for the industrial estate, which provides the greatest employment in the 'Gatwick Diamond'.

A BDP spokesman said the council wanted the 2.5km2 area to remain entirely as a commercial development and added that the major problem was pooling what is a fragmented site.

'Across the site ownership is very fragmented. We will not be going down to a massing level, but we will be advising on how to regenerate the estate and on appropriate developments and building heights,' said the spokesman.

The study will also undertake an audit of the quality of the environment, the transport network and the range of support facilities and services available in the area, with a view to putting forward an action plan for improvement.

The report will be presented in September.
