BDP to create new 'affordable' homes in south London

BDP is working up plans that will see the creation of 488 new homes just off south London's Old Kent Road.

The scheme - for client Tesco - will be at the junction of Old Kent Road and Dunton Road, and also involves the doubling in size of Tesco's existing Old Kent Road store.

The project was first announced last October but at the time only included 320 new homes. Under the new scheme, 168 houses will be added and, of the total units built, 50 per cent will be 'affordable'.

The original proposals included a single block of housing built above the supermarket, but the latest plans will see a series of smaller buildings which will be connected by green public space on the roof of the store.

A planning application is expected in the next few months.
