Bauman Lyons submits Halifax office refurb for planning

[FIRST LOOK + PLANS + PROJECT DATA] Leeds-based Bauman Lyons has submitted the refurbishment of Halifax’s grade II-listed Princess Buildings for planning

The scheme will see the three-storey corner building refurbished and remodelled providing office accommodation for Calderdale Council.

The architect’s view

‘The buildings are currently a series of disjointed cellular spaces with difficult access and circulation that don’t offer a good working environment. 

‘The proposal aims to reorganise and rearrange the interior spaces of the buildings, exposing the high quality heritage detailing, to rationalise the circulation by introducing a new atrium to the rear courtyard and to demolish an inappropriate and poor quality 1960s extension to Princess Street and replace it with a building more sympathetic to its setting in one of the finest streets in Yorkshire.’
