Atkins recruits Martin Pease as part of expansion in architecture market

Martin Pease, who was famously poached by Stride Treglown from Michael Hopkins, has jumped ship again after being lured away by engineering giant Atkins.

Pease' move - which will see him take up the role of director of design solutions for the South West and South Wales - comes at a time when Atkins looks set to expand its presence in the architecture market aggressively .

The appointment will be watched carefully by Capita Symonds, the massive consultancy based in Cardiff that swallowed Percy Thomas. The FTSE 100 company has recently seen the South Wales market as its own.

In recent years Atkins has poached several designers from signature firms, including Tom Gent from Foster & Partners.

Speaking after the announcement of his appointment, Pease said: 'I intend to develop Atkins' position in the region's marketplace and raise awareness of the fact that this is a major local business which also operates on a global level.

'We need to demonstrate our strengths and show that we are a responsive, experienced and talented company of designers who are committed to helping build better places for people to work, learn, live, shop and play.'
