Stewart McColl has designs on you

The one-time head honcho of SMC Group, which hit the headlines almost weekly in the mid-noughties as it snaffled up a slew of practices, has once more set his eyes on acquisitions

Having resigned from the giant company in mid 2007, McColl eventually re-emerged at a new practice, Robinson McColl, early in 2009. Meanwhile, SMC changed its name to Archial to erase any trace of its founder.

Speaking to Astragal last week, McColl confessed he was looking to buy another practice, but that no deal was likely before the end of the summer. Whether he will create a super-studio to rival the 200-strong Archial (sixth in this year’s AJ100 list of Britain’s biggest practices) is unlikely – but not impossible. Consider yourself a target.
