Shapps’ red card

Grant Shapps’ call for Liverpool Football Club to speed up its future development plans pushed even Astragal’s taste for punnery to the limit

The demands by the housing minister, published on the government’s Communities and Local government website, included gag-tastic phrases such as ‘the council has asked for extra time’ and ‘it’s down to the club not to score an own goal’.

The japery ended with Shapps urging Liverpool FC to hasten its decision-making process and in turn ‘ensure the council never has to walk alone in their attempts to regenerate the local area’.
