Revealed: the first ever amphibious house
Waterworld-specialists BACA Architects have cornered the market in the floating future - and have come up with yet another ingenious scheme
The latest innovation from the ‘rising’ (damp-free) stars is the UK’s first amphibious house. Unlike other proposals for homes that bob merrily on canals, rivers or the sea, this 225m2 pitched-roof groundbreaker actually rests on fixed foundations inland (on an inundation-prone plot next to the Thames at Marlow).
Whenever a flood occurs, the entire building rises up in its dock and floats there, buoyed by the water beneath. A cat-fish flap is not included.
