Hardcore RIBA aficionados need no reminding that this month we approach the first anniversary of past president Ruth Reed’s failed attempt to oust institute chief executive Harry Rich

As the AJ exposed, the pair’s falling out followed the organisation’s widely criticised plans to scrap the RIBA Trust and climaxed in an unprecedented and failed ‘no confidence’ vote in Rich (AJ 31.03.11).

While many expected top-level rifts to heal following Angela Brady’s inauguration at Portland Place, institute insiders have spoken of fresh conflict at the RIBA’s loftiest heights. It appears Rich is not happy with Brady’s gung-ho approach and ‘off-brief’ utterances to the media, preferring statements to be run through the RIBA PR machine. Perhaps a debate on communications at this week’s council meeting in Oxford will elaborate.
