Mingling Mancunians

Astragal was in town for the launch of the Manchester International Festival, which prides itself on commissioning artworks especially for the fortnight-long event (taking place from 30 June to 17 July this year)

The great and the good of the North West turned out including Urban Splash’s Tom Bloxham and the city’s former creative director Peter ‘I designed that New Order album cover’ Saville, who mingled alongside local talent and London bigwigs such as the hardest-working man in curating, Hans Ulrich Obrist (pictured).

Look out for highlights from Björk, Marina Abramović and John Baldessari. TV funnyman Johnny Vegas praised the curator’s dogged pursuit of talent. ‘He scours the whole North West for talent, asks them if they can do it. Then when they say no he rings me.’ Avin’ it large in the capital of the north.
