Listless at Broadgate

Back in June, the Twentieth Century Society lost its battle to have Arup Associates’ Broadgate buildings listed, paving the way for demolition of part of the 1980s office campus and the arrival of Make’s contentious £340 million UBS bank project

However, the society has returned with a bid to get statutory protection for the numerous artworks around the City of London landmark, including Richard Serra’s Cor-ten Fulcrum, and has submitted a detailed request to English Heritage urging listing.

Asked whether a successful campaign to list the sculptures could derail British Land’s plans for the massive new insertion, an insider admitted that it was unlikely. ‘They would just be moved,’ he confessed.
