Jean Nouvel sees red

There was plenty of pretentious verbiage on display at the Milan Furniture Fair 2010, but back home Jean Nouvel blew away the competition

The architect’s statement for his Serpentine Pavilion, to be built outside London’s Serpentine Gallery this summer, was passed around as a comedy chain email.

Here’s a taste of the great man’s prose: ‘RED SUN… a red glow… a red screen… a windbreaker… in the red… A HAZE OF RED… like closing your eyes against the sun… BLURRED… without end, see green through red… filter… sift… RED EXPLODING AGAINST GREEN… green against red… INCORPORATE THE MYTH OF RED…’ In case you haven’t guessed, Nouvel’s pavilion will be red.
