Alsop's art gang take over the AJ Small Projects awards

AJ Small Projects judge Will Alsop surprised the audience last week when he revealed that the runner-up team at Lincoln Miles Architecture were not really architects at all

One is an architectural technologist, the other, an artist, a fact which appealed to the part-time painter, who claimed, in a tongue-in-cheek fashion, that this was what landed the practice a podium position at the awards ceremony.

The more arty-than-architectural evening continued when winner, Jellyfish Theatre designer Martin Kaltwasser, grabbed the mike from Will to recite a poem in honour of the team that built his design.
