A chat with a Dunlop doppelganger

‘Excuse me, haven’t I seen you before?’

‘No, I don’t think so.’

Oh sorry, I thought you were Gordon Murray + Alan Dunlop Architects’ multi award-winning Hazelwood school in Glasgow (above left).

‘No, I’m Austin Smith:Lord’s recently complete Merrylee Primary School for Glasgow City Council (above right).’

Apologies. You do look very similar.

‘Yes. It is just a coincidence.’

But didn’t Gordon Murray + Alan Dunlop Architects come second in the contest to design you?

‘Possibly. But I have been designed by Austin Smith:Lord to respond to the formal neighbourhood grid and to address the existing Our Lady of the Annunciation Primary School to the west of me.’

‘So, just a coincidence then.’

‘That’s right.’

(Compare both schools right. GM + AD’s top. ASL’s bottom.)

  • Is there no limit to the extent gm+ad will press their sour grapes ?

gm+ad are like some newly invented minor clan hurling bricks over Hadrian's wall. When you go to investigate you see a dodgy tartan kilt tucked into blue polyester y-fronts cladding white buttocks running in the opposite direction. Not a pretty sight.

  • Oh.........and send them homeward tae think again?

  • Polyester brings me out in a rash Peter W.........but other than that you're right on the button, not a pretty sight at all.

  • Might I say that they are both equally as dull as one another?Hook Primary School in Hampshire circa 1990 was very similar. I've just had a bottle of red wine, it has sharpened my sense of outrage. Dull & mediocre both. Bah, and yawn.

  • OOoh and sorry for the repetition. Hazard of the abovementioned.
