Assael's tower to join Grade II* Wallis House in Brentford redevelopment

Assael Architects has released the first image of this landmark tower - the centrepiece of the £160 million Great West Quarter project in Brentford, west London.

The 25-storey building is part of the 5ha development for Barratt West London which also includes the Grade II*-listed Wallis House, designed in the 1930s by Wallis Gilbert and Partners.

Wallis House - which Pevsner describes as bring of 'an exceptional scale for its date' - is on the right flank of what was previously pharmaceutical giant Beecham's 11-storey factory. Under the plans it will be refurbished and turned into a 180-room hotel.

The scheme also includes more than 700 private and affordable apartments, a crèche, shops, a pub, a restaurant and an art gallery.

Work has just commenced on site and completion is scheduled for 2011.
