AOC LIFT theatre to tour Thames Gateway

The London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (LTGDC) has surfaced as one of the major sponsors behind The Lift, a portable theatre.

Designed by burgeoning practice AOC Architects, the mobile theatre and meeting space will now be making its way around different sites in the Thames Gateway.

The project has been commissioned by the London International Festival of Theatre (LIFT), and has been in the pipeline for more than two years, but it is only now that it has transpired who would be backing the scheme.

A LIFT spokesman said: ‘We are in communication with LTGDC in the last few months, and we are developing a venue that will allow people to meet, which will also allow people to engage in different performances.’

The Lift will be completed in time for the festival in June 2008.
