Andy Burnham becomes Culture Secretary

Andy Burnham has replaced James Purnell as Culture Secretary in the reshuffle following Peter Hain’s resignation yesterday (24 January).

Yvette Cooper will take Burnham’s place as chief secretary to the Treasury, with Caroline Flint stepping into Cooper's former role of housing minister.

Burnham, 38, is MP for Leigh and will be taking over the challenging role of overseeing the 2012 London Olympics.
