AHMM’s Battersea homes start on site

Work has begun on AJ100 big-hitter AHMM’s 104-home housing scheme in Battersea, South London

The AHMM-designed development for Lend Lease, which won planning last September, includes 104 homes arranged across two five and six storey buildings.

The buildings will include one to three-bedroom apartments and three-bedroom townhouses.

Constructed from prefabricated cross-laminated timber panels, the construction method will reduce build time while providing high levels of energy efficiency.

Richard Cook, Lend Lease’s head of residential, said: ‘The start of timber construction is an important step towards the completion of these energy-efficient homes.’

‘Since launching last year, we have seen high levels of interest in the homes at Cobalt Place from potential buyers interested in the excellent cost benefits of a home built using CLT. In choosing the wooden material instead of traditional building materials such as concrete, we are able to reduce the amount of energy needed to heat buildings, meaning significant savings for customers on their energy bills.’

The scheme is expected to complete in 2015.
