Aedas and 3DReid bag huge PPP deal north of the border

Practices to design six schools under 136 million 30-year agreement

Aedas and 3DReid have been picked to design six new schools for Perth & Kinross Council after landing one of the biggest Public Private Partnerships (PPP) deals in Scotland

Part of the successful Axiom Education team, led by financier ABN Amro, and contractors Laing O’Rourke and Mitie, the practices will get their hands on projects worth 136 million following the signing of a 30-year PPP agreement.

Aedas is to design four new schools, working in collaboration with the Marland Consulting Group.

Meanwhile 3DReid has been asked to help deliver a new secondary school for 1,100 pupils in Kinross and a combined nursery, primary and secondary school for 100, 350 and 650 children respectively in Perth.

Lynn Cameron, associate director at 3DReid said: ‘Both schools have been designed to relate to their unique site environment providing exciting and inspiring spaces in which to teach and learn.

‘High emphasis has been placed on the creation of social areas and the provision of facilities for community use.’

She added: ‘Building form and orientation have been arranged to support passive ventilation and solar design, utilising a modern, high quality palette of materials, reflecting the council’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficient design.’

The 3DReid schools are expected to start on site early next year.
