Adam Khan shortlisted in Danish contest
London practice shortlisted to remodel housing as part of Scandinavian competition series to find revamp solutions to common building types
Adam Khan Architects (AKA) has been named among the finalists in the competition to overhaul a 50-year-old social housing complex in Ballerup, a suburb 15km north of Copenhagen.
The site in Denmark is one of five chosen as part of the pan-Scandinavian Nordic Built Challenge aimed at finding ‘innovative, sustainable, viable and scalable refurbishment concepts for some of the most common building types in the Nordic region’.
Contests have also been run in Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Norway.
The London-based practice has been shortlisted against Portuguese outfit FORA, local practice ai, and a collective of Jorge Domingues of Arquitecto Unipessoal with André Campos and Joana Mendes of arquitectos lda.
Each of the teams will receive 300,000 NOK (£34,000) to work up their designs with the winner receiving 1,000,000 NOK as well as the contract to take forward the £20 million project.
Winners in all competitions will be announced in September.
