An eclectic bunch of practices, ranging from bridge specialist McDowell + Benedetti to Classicist Robert Adam Architects, has been shortlisted in the contest to overhaul JCB's Heavy Products site in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.
Joining them on the six-strong list are Leeds-based Bauman Lyons Architects, Nottingham's Letts Wheeler Architects, big hitters DEGW and Glenn Howells Architects.
The finalists in the RIBA-organised contest were picked from 36 entrants and will now be asked to come up proposals for the redevelopment the digger giant's factory.
According to JCB chairman Anthony Bamford, the regeneration scheme will have to 'contribute to the wider renaissance' of the area and 'meet the aspirations of the town and its residents'.
The project is expected to deliver a a mix of residential and retail space, and a key part of the scheme will be the 'incorporation' of the existing Bamford Town Park.
All six teams will receive an honorarium of £12,000 plus VAT for their submission.
