Jonny Muirhead's Comments
The South Bank, as well as Bankside and Elephant & Castle all the way along to Vauxhall, Nine Elms and Battersea truly are becoming the equivalent of the eastern bank of the Huangpu River to the Embankment's 'Bund'. Who would have thought the developers of London needed such an extreme and disparate inspiration for their latest physical incarnations and development. At the same time politicians insist on peddling the nineteenth century, low rise Garden City idea... disconnect anyone?
The photos portray a new Foyles that looks far too organised and spacious from the one I remember, visited and loved! I'll still browse and shop there though...
Comment on: Make submits Isle of Dogs tower
Is it just me or does the early, lower proposal presents something so much more animated that the latest, bland tower now being offered. Developers in London seem to have become obsessed with shiny extrusions
Comment on: Chipperfield bags planning for Portland House
Is it just me, or does Chipper's re-cladding have distinct design overtones of the now demolition Drapers Gardens (which I believe to still be one of his best) by the Colonel?

Boring! Much as Amanda Levete's proposal was over development, it at least had a bit of style. This is still too big but now also terribly boring with it. Very disappointing. this patch of town deserve more.
