Comment on: AJ exclusive: Chipperfield counters Prix's Venice Biennale criticism
It’s become personal. Beneath the surface there is a conflict between the neo traditionalist doctrine that David Chippefield represents and others who disagree. Take for example the utterly trivial theme ‘common ground’. Architecture I thought was supposed to take position not sit back in denial. The rather myopic power of one man’s vision appears to have limited architectural choice to the point where the Biennale has become a motley collection of back slapping self-indulgence and irrelevant for the modern age.
Comment on: Wolf Prix attacks Chipperfield's Venice Biennale
It’s the usual suspects who get selected for the Biennale yet it is those very suspects that have brought architecture to its knees. Who Sir David Chipperfield excluded is more important than who he included and it shows that the Biennale remains an old boys club rather than a serious attempt to look at architectural polemics. Mr Prix is right, he has the guts to tell Sir David you’re fired.
