Milan's Magic moments

Astragal’s prize for the most bizarre sight seen at the Milan Furniture Fair this year goes to Breed Retreat by Amsterdam-based designer Frederik Roijé

A series of stacked, black-stained wooden boxes form what must be the world’s most ambitious chicken coop.

Astragal understands the concept of giving nature its space in urban society, but he cannot fathom how a designer hen house will ‘eliminate estrangement from our origins’.

And Astragal’s award for the most incongruous music/product partnership on a display stand goes to Flos, whose tasteful and muted lighting installations were accompanied by, erm, The Prodigy’s ‘Smack My Bitch Up’. Lovely.
