Manchester Museum seeks architect for £5m gallery

The Manchester Museum is on the hunt for an architect for a new temporary exhibition gallery

The museum – which is run by the University of Manchester – is also planning to remodel one of its entrances as part of the project.

The £5 million exhibition facility will be constructed inside a courtyard off nearby Coupland Street inside the university campus.

Opened in 1888, the Alfred Waterhouse-designed Neo-Gothic museum displays items of archaeology, anthropology and natural history.

In May. Dutch practice Mecanoo was appointed to design a new £200million engineering campus for the University of Manchester.

The project is the first phase of a £1 billion planned expansion of the prestigious Russell Group university.

The winning team for the museum extension will be appointed lead designer and take on the role of contract administrator.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 27 August.
