Make Architects will lead the redevelopment of the conference centre site on Brighton seafront, Brighton & Hove Council will announce later today (27 Monday)
The proposed masterplan could potentially include the revamp of a hotel, neighbouring Churchill Square shopping centre and Odeon cinema, according to Brighton & Hove Council.
‘It’s a real privilege to be appointed to design this development,’ said Make founder Ken Shuttleworth.
‘The city has such a distinct character and our design must be rooted in this context; uniquely Brightonian,’ added Shuttleworth.
‘Make Architects has demonstrated in their approach that they will be able to deliver a world class development,’ said Council leader Mary Mears. ‘Delivery of a new convention centre has been a key economic priority for the city’.
Brighton & Hove Council have confirmed that Make architects will collaborate with Urban Practitioners, Vx3 and CDA on the Standard Life-backed project.
According to the council, Make will eventually work with an eight-strong design team, A spokesman said: ‘It is anticipated that the full team will be assembled by late August.
‘Although the timescale is not yet confirmed, a six month phase of feasibility studies is expected to take place once the full team has been selected.’
