Kevin McCloud: Smoke 'em if you've got 'em

To Swindon, for a day out with a politician and a TV celebrity

New housing minister Grant Shapps joined TV presenter Kevin McCloud, sustainability guru Jonathon Porritt and UK Green Building Council chief executive Paul King to turn the sod – or more accurately, bash the hemp – at McCloud’s Triangle project in Swindon, designed by Glenn Howells Architects.

McCloud was in ebullient mood, forcing a bemused Shapps to shovel hemp and cheerily promising to ‘plant some in the minister’s Prius and see how far he gets up the M4 before he gets pulled over’. Extolling hemp’s many environmental virtues, McCloud concluded by saying: ‘If there happens to be a fire… you can smoke your own house.’
