Hypostyle creates Glasgow tenement infill
[FIRST LOOK + PLANS + DATA] The AJ can reveal plans and pictures of Hypostyle Architects’ RIAS Award-winning Fore Street husing scheme in Glasgow
The development, which was given a special mention at the Doolan Prize award ceremony last night (November 8), consists of a group of 15 affordable dwellings built within the perimeter of an existing Victorian tenement block.
These houses are accessed through a passageway built within a new five-storey block of flats situated on Fore Street that maintains the scale of the neighbouring tenements and completes the urban block.
A parking court and communal green space leads to a pedestrian lane that provides access to a series of two-storey houses and cottage flats.
The properties are arranged along either side of the lane, staggered in relation to the houses on the opposite side of the lane, giving the houses an outlook beyond their immediate neighbours towards the tenements on the far side of the block. The spaces between the blocks are used as private courtyard gardens.
