Ypenburg, Holland, Melvyn Rowberry Welding Services

The AJ Award for the best use of aluminium in an international building - Winner

There are numerous examples of aluminium used for residential and domestic properties throughout Holland and yet Ypenburg has a uniqueness.

This project utilises Kalzip standingseam system to both the roof and wall elevations via a fully-welded cranked eaves detail. Rooflights, upper windows and patio doors complement the overall design but necessitate intricate detailing. To ensure a watertight solution throughout the building's life, on-site aluminium welding of the interfaces was undertaken by UK based specialist subcontractor Melvyn Rowberry Welding Services.

Equipment developed over many years ensures complex detailing can easily be accomplished. Challenging access for the site welding of aluminium is not uncommon and these combined challenges have allowed the art of on-site aluminium welding to be perfected.

Aluminium roof and wall interfaces, irrespective of the geometry, can be achieved through welding to maintain a lifetime of integrity and durability. Ypenburg is an excellent example of an integrated solution.
