Yes, our image was vague - deliberately so

We were interested to see our Derby arts and media centre image reprinted two weeks ago (AJ 14.4.05), alongside Jayne Clough's letter speaking out against architects''vague images' and 'inability to make design accessible to a wider audience'.

Had the image been intended to represent a scheme that had just got planning permission, as incorrectly stated by the AJ when it was first published the previous week, we would have entirely agreed with her.

However, this was an early concept sketch showing a possible landscape treatment, which is why the building was deliberately ambiguous. Even the most gung ho of planners would have been hard pressed to approve it.
