X marks the spot for mobility as Rotterdam Biennale makes debut

The first Rotterdam Biennale, which opened on 7 May, focuses on the theme of 'Mobility'.

The Netherlands Architecture Institute-organised event - on until 7 July - features exhibitions, lectures and excursions around the city. The centerpiece is a multimedia exhibition entitled World Avenue, based on a study comparing the 'most travelled routes in the world'.

It will also feature the 'Holland Avenue' exhibition, which will present designs by 12 schools of architecture of a section of the Rondje Randstad project, a highway in the Dutch city of Randstad. The show will include this design by a Zaha Hadid-mentored team from the University of Vienna. For details see www. biennalerotterdam. nl
