The radical reworking of the public realm to Trafalgar Square and St Martin's Place, by Foster and Partners and Atkins, introduced whiter lighting with good colour rendering to this world-famous civic space. This not only allowed a reduction of lighting levels without compromising safety, but permitted the existing and new lighting of artworks, monuments and the surrounding buildings to be appreciated better.
