Wood for good

An ingenious idea combining ecology, forestry and housebuilding reaches me at the National HomeBuilder Awards lunch. House-builders join with the Forestry Commission, buy land from farmers, build individual homes on (say) four corner plots and plant the rest with trees and natural goodies.

Environment enhanced, homes provided, farmer happy, and planners placated; this one could run. The awards were presented by Michael Manser and former Bond girl (now property journalist) Fiona Fullerton.

Many will recall her on-screen leap into a hot tub with Roger Moore - one of those 'less is more'moments.
