Winchester Discovery Centre by Hampshire County Council Architecture & Design Services

Jewry Street, Winchester, Hampshire

The scheme restores and extends a Grade ll corn exchange to provide a library, gallery, performance hall and cafe. The original layout is re-established and reinforced with contemporary elements. A new mezzanine floor follows the line of the original circular courtyard centrepiece. A new stone and glass wing forms one side of a new public place and the rear wall of the new wing, covered by a vast embroidery, is top lit to help increase the transparency of the front facade.
