There's a cold front gathering down at Brighton. It's especially chilly on the Black Rock site, where S&P Architects has drawn up plans for an international sporting arena complete with its own ice rink.

One of these will become the home of a skating school run by former Olympic figure skaters Robin Cousins and Jayne Torvill. But if you think the wannabe skate-stars are going to be cold, spare a thought for the nudists who use the neighbouring beach.

It is hoped that these naked bathers won't prove to be a distraction for the dedicated team who are to build the £55 million arena. Rest assured that if a mysterious hole is found bored into the hoardings between the building site and beach, Astragal understands the architects and construction managers will be rigorously looking into it.
