Unsuitable case

It's a pleasure to see the latest publication from Birkhõuser, a splendid volume called The Presence of the Case Study Houses by Ethel Buisson and Thomas Billard. As well as the expected wonderful photographs and drawings, there is an intriguing section on current owners in which the photographs show categorically that an appreciation of great architecture does not necessarily go together with taste in interior decoration or, indeed, in dress. Astragal was particularly impressed by one owner, who had filled the house with family portraits and sub-Fantin Latour flower paintings, both eclipsed by her own garish sundress and redrimmed glasses.
