THE PRESIDENTS MEDALS 2004

ACHIM MENGES Achim Menges is a partner in Ocean North and the Emergence and Design Group. He graduated from the Architectural Association with honours and currently teaches Diploma Unit 4 and the Emergent Technologies and Design masters programme at the AA. Menges received the FEIDAD Outstanding Design Award in 2002, the FEIDAD Design Merit Award in 2003 and the Archiprix International 2004.

MICHAEL HENSEL Michael Hensel is an architect, urban designer, and writer. He co-founded Ocean in 1994 and has been a partner in Ocean North since 1998, the Emergence + Design Group since 2003 and the Differentiated Structures Research Group since 2004. He is co-director of the Emergent Technologies and Design masters programme and unit master of Diploma Unit 4 at the AA.

WINNER - IGUZZINI PART 2 PRIZE TOM JENKINS The winner of the iGuzzini travelling award for Part 2 was Tom Jenkins of the University of Westminster for 'Swimming in the Thames: floating pools at Gabriel's Wharf'. The standard swimming pool is divided into a series of 'endless pools', which act as treadmills for swimmers. These serve as a public exhibition of 'the occupants' immobile struggle against ambition'.
