TREE SCREW COULD HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES?

LETTERS

Nice picture of tree plaything for children on your front cover (AJ 19.01.06). Presumably, from looking at the base of the tree, it is secured to it by large screws?

We tree officers find that sort of thing just rubbish. In years to come when the tree dies and needs felling, the tree surgeon won't like it when the chain hits the buried screw, breaks and whips back at them. Have architects ever seen the result of that?

Jonathan Lee, senior planning officer, Gravesham Borough Council
