I agree with Sam Wollaston's gripe that 'I want someone who knows stuff and people who know stuff tend to be eccentric' so it was a pity we couldn't have had Jonathan Meades to review a revisiting of Ian Nairn's seminal work on subtopia (Ajenda, AJ 3.2.05). Andrew Mead's apology for some unknown artist was just bland - no passion - while Nairn's work was fashionably dismissed as a rant.

Having just re-read the article I detect that Mead is trying to be critical but there's no invective, no spleen and no analysis to justify an outpouring of bile - no outrage. I still don't believe it and Nairn died an alcoholic because he couldn't believe it.
